While I can teach  the basics of guitar and how to play some of their favorite songs, My primary focus would be teaching students to be creative guitar players. This involves learning how to discover and play chords anywhere on the neck, using scales and modes to come up with creative chord progressions etc. I also am able to help and coach in the area of songwriting both with music and lyrics.  Email me for rates and to set up an appointment.

Backbeat Music Academy is dedicated to the idea that everyone has the talent to make the music they want to make: The biggest problems are confusion and therefore intimidation. By providing a clear learning method that adapts to any goal, our students clear up the confusion by learning *how* music works and what they need to do to master it. The result is that our students not only feel empowered to master whatever they set their minds to, but learn how to make authentic music that comes from the heart.
We focus on guitar, piano, drums, vocals, bass and try to get everyone involved in bands. We also offer film scoring classes, Computer Music Composition and more.

I work with students of all ages and backgrounds and assist in helping them find them find freedom and control in their voices. I help them with the basic technical aspects of singing and also how important it is to have it be a full body sensory experience. Singing can be even more healing and joyful once you are able to break out of unhealthy habits and learn to emote not only correctly, but from the heart!
In addition to voice, I work with beginning to intermediate guitar students and specialize in acoustic rhythm guitar, guitar picking, and some lead guitar playing.
I also thoroughly enjoy walking my students through the songwriting process. Songwriting can seem daunting and confusing at first, but when the basic theory is put in place as well as an understanding of song form, it can be incredibly rewarding!
Being a touring musician and someone who has experienced many years on stage (and a top 24 on American Idol), I also offer help with stage performance. You can have all the chops in the world, but the truth is that people listen with their eyes when it comes to a live performance! I enjoy helping people feel comfortable in their own skin when it comes to performing.

A great passion of mine is to teach music. I have enjoyed six years as a music educator, instructing students ages 4-90 in a wide variety of formats including private lessons, choirs, vocal workshops, general music classes, and more.

If you would like to start – or continue – your own musical journey, I would love to join in on the adventure with you! I teach voice, piano, guitar, songwriting, theory, performance, and more.

My experience includes: BA Music Education, Pacific Youth Choir director, Ethos Music Center instructor, Oregon Music Academy instructor, CS Lewis Academy music/choir teacher, founder/director student choir at Pacific University, Outstanding Vocalist at PU, guest instructor at Music in May, community choir director, and independent private lesson teacher. I have extensive experience as a soloist in classical and contemporary settings.

Music nurtures our mind, body, and spirit, and it’s my priviledge to facilitate that growth with my students!

My focus is always on relaxing my student’s bodies and minds, helping them become independent vocalists and performers and also help then create a healthy and strong voice with a killer technique.
